Description:
The technology applications class concentrates on providing students with the basic fundamentals of computer hardware, productivity software, and keyboarding skills.
Goals:
5th:
Students will gain an understanding of the basic hardware and how computers function. Students will obtain a basic proficiency in keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, and slideshows.
6th:
Students will continue growth and proficiency in keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, and slideshows, and
multimedia.
Expectations:
1. Behave as you know you should behave in school
2. Do what is asked and expected of you in class with your best effort
3. Treat the equipment with respect, do not change any settings or abuse equipment
Rotation – 5th graders will go from technology to pre-band after 7.5 wks and 6th graders will go to art after 12 wks.
·
Missed Exams/Assignments Due to Absence: Due to the nature of this course, any graded assignment missed due to an absence will be exempted or if it is an assignment that goes beyond one class period I grade the project based on what time the student did have to work on it.
Headphones:
If students want, they can bring ear buds or headphones to the lab. I recommend a cheap set rather than expensive products like Beats.
·
Homework:
There is no homework other than I strongly encourage the students to work consistently on proper keyboarding all year. I encourage them to…
> put on some favorite music and do keyboard lessons for 4-5 songs, 4-5 times per week.
> to always use proper keyboarding technique even when doing their “fun” stuff like Facebook, emails, games, etc.
> to challenge themselves and not to just always do the easy lessons, games.
Keyboarding:
At the first of class, students are to come in, login and begin keyboarding practice.
Typing Tests:
We’ll have a typing test each week, usually on Mondays. The goal for 5th graders is 25wpm and 30wpm for 6th graders, and minimal errors of course.
Projects:
Both grades will do some projects in which it’d be great for them to have pictures of themselves as well as their family, pets, friends, etc. Students can bring these to class on a CD or flash drive. A flash drive is recommended since they can also save their projects to take home.
